Getting SmartCache to Start in Scalix
After no error messages, and many attempts to initialize the SmartCache, a solution is found.
This should only affect non-initial-installation Scalix Connector installations.
The symptoms are as follows:
When a new Profile is created with the SmartCache turned on,
a. the SmartCache icon never appears
b. there is no indication of any error in the log (located in the %homedir%/Local Settings/Application Settings/Scalix/Scalix/MAPI/Profiles/[ProfileName]) - the log shows that the server is contacted and then end
c. all of the Add-Ins listed in Outlook (located under Tools > Options > Other > Advanced) are enabled/checked
Today the solution was to go to the Disabled Add-Ins, which can be located under the Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled Add-In button. Under this button was a Scalix dll which had previously been disabled and remained disabled even though the entire Connector has been removed and re-installed. I am not sure if this is a flaw with the un-installer, a flaw with Outlook's handling of extension uninstallation or intentional behavior.
